The Mountain is You by Brianna Wiest

As I’ve been on a journey to annotate my books more often, I must admit—this is a big shift for me. For the longest time, I considered it near blasphemous to write on physical books. But thankfully, digital versions have taken the fear out of making notes.

Luckily for you and me, dearest gentle reader, I did some annotating while reading this one—because the length of the book made it a bit tricky to recall everything clearly without them.

Long story short: it took me forever to finish, but not because it wasn’t a phenomenal read. This book offers a sober and uncomplicated look at self-sabotage and insecurities. Brianna doesn’t over-psychologize the causes, and it’s definitely not woo-woo. It’s a straightforward, digestible read that helps give you clarity on how you may be standing in your own way.

Most memorable line: "The most important thing you can do to live meaningfully is to work on yourself. To consciously become the happiest, kindest and most gracious version of yourself"

Rating: 8.5/10

Verdict: A great read!

Love Radio by Ebony LaDelle

My first fiction of the year—and what a gorgeous read! Read it immediately!!

Admittedly, I had a bit of an attitude during the first few chapters. I tend to side-eye books that feel too modern in their tone. Hypocritical, I know, considering my own style of writing. The mentions of Facebook and Instagram usually make me feel too close to reality—but in this case, it worked.

This story about two teenagers, Prince Jones and Danielle Ford, just made sense with those references.

The book alternates between their perspectives—chapters from her point of view, then his. They both face real-life challenges, but still manage to create a healthy romance. It’s not fluff or unrealistic—it’s beautiful, raw, and real.

Most memorable line:“Don’t ever think I fell for you or fell over you. I didn’t fall in love, I rose in it.”

Rating: 9/10

Verdict: Absolutely worth the read.
